The Spice Route offers:

1. Barley & Biltong Emporium
Boasting with one of the best views of Table Mountain and the Paarl Winelands, Barley & Biltong is a beer garden with a local twist. Craft beer and biltong lovers can look forward to enjoying an ice cold pint of their favourite CBC beer together with our carefully selected range of Beef, Kudu, Eland and Springbok biltong. We also offer satisfying gourmet burgers and hand cut double-fried chips.

2. Cape Brewing Co.
The Cape Brewery Company, also known as CBC, produces and offers a wide range of beers using only the finest ingredients, state of the art equipment and is made by the highly skilled Brewmaster, Wolfgang Koedel.

Beer lovers can view the facilities where they can follow the entire beer production process and thereafter taste it either on tap or at the tasting stations.

3. CV Artisan Chocolate
Our resident chocolate maker, DV Artisan Chocolate is crafted by the De Villiers family and is one of few ‘Bean to Bar’ micro batch chocolate makers in the world. All DV Artisan Chocolates are hand-crafted and available for tasting on the farm.

4. The Barn Artist's Studio Gallery
Opened in December 2013, The Barn Artists Studio & Gallery functions as a work and exhibition space for resident painters Diane Back and Jake Watson, who regularly invite local artists to create and display their work alongside them. Pop in to the gallery to see the artists at work or to marvel at their prolific output, which is all for sale at the venue.

Creative and inspiring woman involved in the daily goings-on at Spice Route is owner Charles Back’s wife Diane, who paints and exhibits her unique and masterful creations in The Barn Artists Gallery where you will find striking original artworks fresh off the easel.

Barn Artist Jake Watson, has a lifelong love for the sea, this passion is captured through his inspiring seascapes. Jake also displays expressive landscapes & intriguing portraits. Amongst Jake’s works you will find his encaustic paintings displaying rich jewel-like qualities of oil & beeswax. A feast for the eyes.

Red Hot Glass is one of very few Venetian-style glass blowing studios' in South Africa. Each piece is unique, from exquisite hand-blown perfume bottles to elegant vases and wonderful abstract statues. Red Hot Glass graces some of the top hotels and galleries in the world.

8. The Trading Company
As the Spice Route Destination grows and evolves, new and exciting treasures and experiences are added and are waiting to be discovered.
The latest addition to the Spice Route family of ‘craft’ is The Trading Company – a quirky store that’s decor is an eclectic mix of old and new. The store fits in perfectly with the Spice Route philosophy and is making authentic, and hand crafted products even more accessible to the public.
The array of carefully selected bespoke home ware, exotic furniture, premium baby products, one of a kind jewelry, and notebooks, sold at the store, are a true celebration of local design. The store will primarily stock authentically handmade, limited edition pieces crafted by our very own local artists, and the small amount of Turkish and Indian products is a ‘must have’ treasure for the adventurous soul. Most of the products are made from natural and raw materials. All décor used in the store is also handmade locally, or up-cycled by local artists.

9. Bertus Basson
Welcome to Bertus Basson at Spice Route. Our menu is made up of traditional South African meals with a modernized twist. Patrons can look forward to dishes made from Bertus and Allistaire’s family recipes such as ‘Ouma Jossie’s baked tongue with slaphakskeentjies and organic beetroot’ and ‘Tannie Hetta’s apple pie, Mom’s recipe custard and vanilla ice cream’.

Visitors can look forward to enjoying their meals not just inside the restaurant but also on the stoep and manicured lawns, where they will be able to fully embrace the beautiful natural surroundings of the Paarl Winelands.

10. Richard Bosman Cured Meats

Since 2009, Richard Bosman’s Quality Cured Meats has been producing exceptional Italian and Spanish style charcuterie using traditional methods of salting and drying. Special partnerships with selected farmers allow the small factory to source the very best pasture-reared animals, delivering superior quality and flavour to the meat. With a philosophy of interfering as little as possible with the meat, Bosman and his team rely on quality and time to make the magic happen. The meat is hand-salted, hung and cured for 2 – 12 months, resulting in delicious, artisanal fare that’s well worth the wait.

11. Wine tasting & Sales
Renowned for its hand-crafted wines from the Swartland region, with exotic names such as Chakalaka and Malabar, Spice Route Wines can now be enjoyed at its new home in the Paarl Winelands.

Enjoy our award winning wines in a rustic underground tasting room, or outside under the pergola or laze on the rolling lawn, whilst enjoying the panoramic views of Table Mountain and the Simonsberg Mountain range. The relaxed and informal atmosphere, as well as the tranquil surroundings, creates the perfect setting for a memorable tasting experience.

A daily selection of four wines paired with three Richard Bosman’s cured meats & fresh seasonal fruit. Monday - Sunday: 09:00 - 17:00 Tastings conclude 60 minutes prior to the closing time. Booking essential.

Cellar tours – All Spice Route wines are handcrafted at the Spice Route farm in the Swartland. We unfortunately do not offer tours of the cellar.

12. Brenda's Deli
Foodie extraordinaire Brenda de Jager has always been inspired by food. Travels to gastronomic meccas like Morocco, Spain and Argentina further fuelled her love for all things edible, and in 2007 she finally turned her passion into a business. Starting out making jams, Brenda soon found that every new season brought on a quest for seasonal produce. Slowly but surely she increased her range of preservative- and additive-free products, and today her much-loved preserves come in a variety of flavours and forms. Fresh products, natural ingredients and unique combinations make the treats at Brenda’s Deli as distinct as they are delicious.
