The Amakhala Game Reserve - located in the malaria free Eastern Cape of South Africa -began as a joint conservation venture between the owners of six lodges who are direct descendants of the original Frontier settlers who arrived here with the 1820 British Settlers some five generations ago. The families originally settled to farm sheep and cattle on the wild and often hostile Zuurveld.
In 2011 the original members of the Amakhala and the Lion Roars Group created a joint Marketing agreement and brand rejuvenation for the malaria free Amakhala Game Reserve. This agreement now encompasses 11 properties each with their own unique ambiance on the 7 500 hectare reserve which.
Guided by an experienced Ranger on an open Land Rover, the Amakhala Game Reserve offers a game viewing experience of the diverse wildlife and landscape including: The Big Five, Black Wildebeest, Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra and numerous other antelope.
The reserve is less than an hour's drive from Port Elizabeth, Grahamstown and Addo and offers day safari packages as well.
