The sandy beach lies adjacent to a lovely residential area, which is also popular as a holiday destination for those looking for something quieter than Ballito.
The name allegedly comes from a rocky outcrop that was supposed to have been used by King Shaka as a look-out point. The waves aren’t known to attract surfers but the beach is a launch point for ski boats going out on deep sea fishing trips.
You can walk from Willard Beach at Ballito to Shaka’s Rock through a hole in the cliff but make sure you do this at low tide otherwise you may be caught out.
