Kei Mouth is a lovely holiday village on the mouth of the Kei River, about an hour’s drive from East London. It is the southern entry point to the Wild Coast and a great place to stay over to get your bearings for the less developed villages on your explorations further.
There are a number of secluded beaches for those who want to just swim and soak up the rays, as well great surfing and a 9-hole links-style golf course. The Hazel Jefferies Shell Museum gives a rare insight into the sea-creatures of the area. It is located at the municipal offices in the Main Road.
Don’t miss an opportunity to take the “Pont”, one of South Africa’s two remaining car-transporting pontoon river services. Along with vehicles and foot passengers, you might also share your space with a bit of livestock being moved to new grazing.
