About Kakamas

Established as a fruit farming community in 1931, Kakamas is a thriving little village 90km west of Upington, on the banks of the Orange River in the Northern Cape. Crops from the area include peaches and sultana crops (for raisins), and table grapes for export.

Unique are the ancient Persian waterwheels that pump the Orange river waters from furrows into the semi arid lands, turning them fertile and able to support a great fruit industry.
