Hluhluwe is located in the northern section of KwaZulu-Natal, and is a small town whose primary economic activities are tourism and farming. Hluhluwe is responsible for over 90% of South Africa’s queen pineapple production.

Hluhluwe was established in 2000, and its name derives from the Zulu interpretation of Dalbergia Armata, a thorny climber that is common in the region. Hluhluwe and its surrounding areas are also considered to be the original homes of the Zulu kings Shaka and Dingiswayo.
