This precinct to the east of the CBD has its roots in the arts and the need to reverse the city's urban decay. It has evolved into a collaborative hub of culture, business and lifestyle and offers retail stores, entertainment venues and restaurants/pubs. The Arts on Main creative hub with its popular Sunday market is part of the precinct.
There are loads of things here to keep you and the whole family busy. Three of the best include:
• Lenin's Vodka Bar is a hidden gem in the Maboneng Precinct serving forty different types of vodka from around the world. Find them at 300 Commissioner Street, corner Albrecht Street.
• Che Argentine Grill - located just outside the Maboneng Precinct, Che offers a little taste of rustic Buenos Aires in Johannesburg. Ideal for carnivores and those wanting to sample some good Argentinian wines while tangoing the night away. Head to 303 Fox Street.
• Smack Republic is a wonderful, vibrant artisanal (craft) brewery that is an integral part of the rejuvenation of this part of the inner city. The brewery is open on Sundays between 10am and 3pm so get there and sample their beers @ Unit 13, Arts on Main Building, 266 Fox Street.
