In Northern KwaZulu-Natal, 350 kilometres from Durban, at the feet of the Ubombo Mountains, lies the small town of Mkuze. Mkuze is relatively isolated from other towns and enjoys a remote, peaceful atmosphere.
Mkuze is an ideal destination travellers who are attracted to small, quaint towns with a lot to offer if one looks well enough. Mkuze is well known for its vast animal life, including the big 5, as well as many attractions and adventures in and around the town. It is so removed from commercial society that it creates its own atmosphere of tranquillity and serenity, and is admired for its surrounding wilderness and wildlife.
Intaba Yemikhovu, or Ghost Mountain lies not too far off from Mkuzi, and this is said to be the place that King Dingaan was murdered by King Shaka’s son, Mhlopekazi. Other evidence suggests that Dingaan died near the Tugela River, however Mkuze still remains notorious for this fable.
