The eastern region of the North West is a paradise of nature, wildlife and adventure situated a stone's throw away from the craziness of Johannesburg and Pretoria. Most visitors come in search of the adventure with numerous activities such as hiking, mountaineering, watersports, angling, hang-gliding, parasailing, abseiling, yachting, hot air ballooning, white water rafting and riding the cableway. This is just a taste of what is on offer.

The Hartbeespoort Dam is a major drawcard for the region. For many, the attraction of the large expanse of water and the exhilarating water sports that go along with it is why people visit, but this is just a small portion of what is on offer here. It is situated at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountains which allows for all sorts hikes, bike rides and walks through nature. And lastly, eaters and shoppers will be more than satisfied too - there are boutiques, markets, stalls as well as restaurants catering for every need. No one will leave here feeling disappointed!

The Sterkfontein Caves are a system of limestone caves that have produced some of the world’s most important fossils. Homo Naledi, a startling discovery that was announced in September 2015 shedding much new light on a previously unknown human relative, Mrs Ples, the almost complete skull of adult female Australopithecus Africanus as well as an almost complete hominid skeleton, known as Little Foot were unearthed here along with a further 500 hominids. Guided tours of the caves as well as new, renovated facilities and a fascinating museum make a visit here obligatory.
