Welcome To Helderberg Region

About Helderberg Region

The Helderberg region is at the foot of the Hottentots Holland Mountains which includes the Helderberg. Only 50km outside of Cape Town, visitors wanting to stay out of the city are close enough to commute and close to wine farms, golf estates and the historical town of Stellenbosch.

TRAVELLING AROUND THE REGION
There is not yet a MyCiTi Service in the Helderberg region, however, there are Golden Arrow busses that run between suburbs and private bus services that run from Somerset West into Cape Town. The TCT app will still give you directions and routes for private travel and public services.

Download the mobile app TCT (Transport Cape Town) which is available for the following smartphones: Windows Phone, iPhone, Android and Blackberry and under the name ‘TCT’ (look for the red logo). The app incorporates MyCiti, Golden Arrow (private bus company and Metrorail.

TAXIS
- There are plenty of good, safe and reliable taxi firms in Cape Town, taxis cannot be hailed in the street, a telephone call is required.
- Mini-bus Taxis are shared taxis that can be hailed in the street on busy routes. There is a lot of bad press about minibus taxis, to be safe stick to the busy routes during the day.
- Uber operates in Cape Town.

TRAINS
Metrorail operates short distance commuter trains to Simon’s Town through the southern suburbs (southern line), to the Northern Suburbs and outlying towns of Paarl, Wellington, Malmesbury and Worcester. For the map of the lines see Metrorail. There is also a Metrorail App available.

BEACHES OF THE HELDERBERG REGION
Cape Town’s beaches differ in terms of wheelchair access, braai (barbecue) area, dog walking, horses permitted, lifeguards on duty, fishing permitted, resorts, boat launches, blue flag status and shark spotters on duty. See the Beach Pamphlet for more details.

Please be aware of strong rip tides on our coasts especially along the beaches off the road between Gordon’s Bay and Betty’s Bay. Most of the Cape Town beaches are manned by life guards, but the beaches that fall into the Table Mountain National Park do not. They are Kommetjie, Scarborough, Noordhoek and Boulders.
