De Wildt is small village and railway siding on the R566. It was named after an engineer who was working for the Dutch railway company that surveyed the line from Pretoria to Rustenburg, a Mr E. De Wildt. Under a karee tree in town was where South Africa’s National Party was born. General Hertzog announced that he would break away from Generals Louis Botha and Jan Smuts to form his own party.
On the Northern Slopes of Magaliesberg between Brits, Haartbeespoort Dam and Pretoria North is De Wildt, the best place for a fantastic 4x4 experience and a great weekend. No guidance is needed along this circular trail, the length of which you decide. There are 3 additional loops you can add to the trail to make your drive more exciting and challenging. Enjoy ramping up and down steps, rock slabs, over loose rocks, sand, though mud and crossing water obstacles.
