Hartbeestpoort is a small village that is perched on the banks of the Hartbeestpoort Dam. Situated in the Magaliesberg Mountain Range, the combination of water plus mountains equals breathtaking views. The dam is on the Crocodile River and irrigates 16 000 hectares of land. In fact, 80% of its water is used for irrigation.
The dam and its little village is where many people from Johannesburg and Pretoria come for weekend getaways as it is just 45 minutes away from both centres. There is also a sizeable population who commute into the two cities every day.
There really is plenty to do and see. For many, the drawcard is the watersports - skiing, sailing, wakeboarding, parasailing, tubing, boating, jetskiing, etc. which provides hours and hours of entertainment for the whole family.
If it is peace and serenity that you’re after, the Magaliesberg offers many activities too. Hikes and walks through nature, dodging streams, waterfalls and rock pools allows the blood to get pumping and the lungs breathing in fresh, crisp air.
For the thrillseekers there is hot air ballooning and hang -gliding. For the rest of us a cable car ride, markets, a zoo, snake park, crocodile ranch, restaurants and shops will keep us busy. You name it, it's all here.
